Start by proving the decline is real
Campaign dashboards fluctuate naturally, and tracking changes can create apparent collapses without a real change in demand. Compare appropriate periods, account for seasonality and verify tags, consent behaviour, CRM imports and page availability before rebuilding the account.
When the decline is real, identify where it begins. Rising costs with stable response suggests a delivery or auction issue; stable traffic with lower page conversion points downstream; normal lead volume with weak sales progression may indicate fit, response or market conditions.
Trace the funnel from delivery to sale
Review audience saturation, query mix, placement, geography and creative response. Then test the continuity between advert, offer and page. A strong asset cannot rescue a promise that no longer feels relevant or an offer the audience does not understand.
Check forms, phone tracking, payment, mobile usability and load time using real devices. Speak with the people handling leads; their observations often reveal changes in customer questions before aggregated reports do.
- Verify tracking and destination availability.
- Locate the first funnel stage that changed.
- Inspect market, message and operational causes.
- Run a controlled fix with a clear review point.
Recover learning, not just yesterday’s metric
Choose the most plausible high-impact cause and make a controlled intervention. Simultaneous changes to bidding, audience, creative and page may recover results, but leave the team unable to repeat the success.
Document external events, implementation changes and outcomes. The goal is a more resilient acquisition system that can distinguish ordinary variance from a structural problem and respond proportionately.
